Evanston Publishing, Inc. has spent a quarter of a century making it easier for writers to become authors. Owner and company president Dorothy Kavka guides hundreds of authors and their hundreds of thousands of books through the process. Like any creative form, there is the vision and there is the practical application.

When the company was founded in Evanston, Illinois, in 1985, there were only about a half-dozen true self-publishing companies in the country. By the time Kavka moved her company to Louisville, Kentucky, in 1996, the Internet had helped spawn an explosion of vanity presses, subsidy schemes, and outright fraudulent scams aimed at unsuspecting writers.

Evanston has adopted a mission of educating writers and authors about the differences among the options that are available, and helping writers find the niche that is right for them.

Evidently it is a process that has served the company well, because Kavka cites referrals and repeat business as one of the main reasons for succeeding in business through 25 years of moving locations, changing technology, and economic recession.
